Each of their children were raised to believe that anything less than pure was not suitable and should be destroyed. Phineas, and his siblings learned early on in life that it was easier to not say anything at all if they did not agree with their parents. When younger Phineas and his younger sister, Fiona would joke at how ridiculous it all sounded, but it was when they got older that Fiona really started to stand up to her parents. Phineas on the other hand decided that it was better not to deal with the yelling and the fighting and have his own opinions; just kept quietly as he would follow them as he saw fit. When Phineas was accepted into Hogwarts, his family was proud as he was accepted into Slytherin house. At Hogwarts, he was an excellent student making sure to work hard to keep his grades, finding that he excelled well in charms and potions. He also had a bit of a wild streak, and his academic career almost came to an end when a prank was played with his best friend, Duncan Parkinson, which is never spoken of. From what was said it dealt with a massive amount of fire whiskey, a class room of students, a professor, and multiple hexes. The ending result should have been expulsion from Hogwarts, but instead Duncan took the complete blame and never once implicated Phineas at all. Duncan was expelled and his wand was broken in two, causing him to also become disowned from his own family. It had always impressed Phineas that Duncan was so loyal to him that he would protect him no matter what the cost. It was a lesson that stuck with Phineas his whole life, and Duncan is who he considers his best mate to this very day; even though he is now a Muggle attorney by the name of Pardu. They are still in contact with each other, and it is Duncan to whom Phineas has gone to for setting up a fall back plan for Millicent in case anything was to happen to him. Always considered to have good taste many of the girls at Hogwarts would come to him for advice on their looks. He mastered the charms necessary to help them, and discovered that while some thought of this has a very feminine thing; he never seemed to be without a supply of willing and able female bodies for him to explore. Phineas, believed that all women were already beautiful and that he was just giving them a lift of sorts, a placing of art onto a temple wall so to speak. There was one girl two years his senior, that did not care for charms and potions to improve her looks, she was brash and distant only caring for books; usually of a dark nature. Everyone found her foul, except for Phineas who found her beautiful. It was a long struggle, but he eventually struck up a sort of friendship with her, though she always kept him at arms length. He found that he could have almost anyone woman in the school he wanted, except the one his heart wanted most, Olivia Potter. It wasn't until his 5th year that he seemed to break through to her, and when he did he found someone warm and caring; her outer shell only as hard as it was to prevent herself from being hurt. When it was time for her to leave school they promised that they would stay in contact, and that when he graduated they would marry. It was a very frustrating time for him after she graduated, missing her and wanting nothing else but to be around her they owled each other constantly. They spent every holiday and summer break together, their love affair passionate and everything he ever wanted. At the end of his last year at Hogwarts he noticed that the tone of her letters started to change. She started talking about bloodlines, and hierarchy; she started to sound like his parents. She told him that she had things she wanted to share with him, and that together things could change the world; that she had met someone that had changed her life and that she wanted them to meet so that he could understand. He was unsure of what to think, telling himself that when he saw her again he would know if she had really changed that much. When he did see her it seemed as if nothing had changed between them and he felt relief. She introduced him to Voldemort only two days after he graduated. Phineas found him charming, and when they spoke he noticed that there wasn't the zealot tone that Olivia's letters had. He has wondered if perhaps Olivia was just over excited. As the night went on he felt as if there was a fog that surrounded him, and by the end of the night he found himself agreeing a lot with what this man had to say. He started to wonder why he hadn't seen it his whole life, that night Olivia and him snuck into a room overcome with passion. It was the first time he noticed the tattoo of the skull with the snake coming out of it's mouth on the inside of her thigh. When asked she told him it was her mark, and that by the end of the night he would have one too; and then they would be bound together forever. Phineas found himself wanting only to be with her and felt he would follow her anywhere. When he awoke in the morning he saw that he had a mark on his right arm that matched hers and that it burned painfully. It wasn't until later that he found out how the marks were received...and that if the mark was on the thigh that it was given personally by Voldemort in the most intimate of ways. Phineas realized then that Olivia wasn't his alone; but he wanted her enough to think that he could change that as time went on. They married three months later. The Bulstrode made most of it's money in the publishing arena owning a majority of The Daily Prophet, and various other Wizarding periodicals; but Phineas never had an interest in it. He tried for a short time to work with his father and brother, Alexander, not finding it to his liking though he quickly left the business. Having to decide what to do with his life he decided to pursue what he had been so well known for in Hogwarts with the females...beauty charms and potions. Using his inheritance he started his own line of potions and cosmetics. Before he knew it he was running a very successful business. When he introduce his first line of fragrances, he knew that he had made a wise decision in following his talents instead of letting someone else force him into something he didn't want to do. During this time, Olivia and him were quite active in the campaigns for Pureblood reform within the Wizarding community. He was used more as spokesperson, which he was more comfortable with. It was easy for him to speak about things he didn't really care about, as he had his whole life with his parents. Him and Olivia would throw large dinner parties for recruitment, and What he didn't want to be involved with was the rumours that he had heard happened while other Death Eaters were out, terror, killing, torture...it was enough to make him ill; and the worst part was he suspected that Olivia was partaking in it as well, and it scared him. When Olivia became pregnant with Millicent, he was overjoyed. He wanted a family quite badly, and he was less than pleased when he saw the reaction that Olivia was having with it. She insisted it was a bad time, and they had their first vicious argument over letting her take a potion that would terminate the pregnancy. It was a battle he won, but just barely. He held hopes that once the baby was born that the maternal instinct would kick in, but it never happened. Millicent was born and given immediately to nannies and house elves. Her mother barely spending any time with her at all, and when she did even at a young age she was harsh and distant to her. The discovery of their second child caused Phineas to have mixed feelings. He still wanted to have a family, but he also knew that every day his wife grew more distant, turning more into the closed off girl from Hogwarts than the warm caring person he had gotten to know. He felt that it was her involvement with The Dark Lord that was causing this, but if he tried to bring it up she became irate and would start to scream. She told him that the Dark Lord was not pleased that she was pregnant, and that she wanted to terminate the pregnancy. Phineas stood this ground, and again Olivia carried the child to term, but when the child was born it was already dead. Phineas was called to see Voldemort, and when he arrived he was hit with a Cruciatus and tortured mercilessly. When finally released he was told that he was not to get Olivia pregnant again under any circumstances; she belonged to him, and that so did he. That was the moment that his marriage truly died, even though there was no divorce. Phineas started to work more and avoid the house as much as possible. He would only return to check on Millicent and make sure that Olivia hadn't killed the nanny or the house elf assigned to caring for her; as she had started to be prone to do that. He did notice though that she did not hurt the child, and though he felt that this was not something he could count on he felt grateful that for whatever reason she kept her wrath away from Millicent. During this time is when Phineas contacted his old friend, Duncan, who had gone on to become a Muggle attorney. He used Duncan to help him set up special accounts for Millicent alone, in case something was to happen to him. With how the war had started to escalate he knew the chances could be high that he would not survive. Then the unthinkable happened...Voldemort was defeated, by someone the same age as Millicent. It seemed to Phineas that perhaps his prayers had been answered. That with Voldemort gone that perhaps the spell that he felt that Olivia was under would fade or disappear. That was not to happen. She went through a deep mourning period over The Dark Lord, scarcely eating or speaking to anyone. Phineas worried for his wife and tried to care for her as much as he could, but she was just a hardened shell by this time and the girl that she had once been seemed to be gone forever. Duncan suggested that perhaps Phineas should think of using what he knew from the Wizarding world and try his hand in the Muggle business world as beauty was a market that both Wizards and Muggles alike couldn't get enough of. After some heavy arranging the two of them set up a company they called, Shiny Magick, which made cosmetics that seems to last miraculously long. It was hit and soon they had more money coming in than he imagined possible. Phineas made the wise decision to keep the Muggle company a secret from everyone save Duncan, and the money that was made from it was put into accounts solely for Millicent's future. Between the money that he was able so siphon from the Wizarding business and all of his share of the profits from the Muggle business, he was sure that Millicent would be set for not just her life, but the life of several generations after her. With the current reappearance of Voldemort, Phineas' fears have grown steeper for his daughter. With the fact that it was a relative of Olivia that had defeated him the first time, Phineas feared that Olivia might do something rash to get back into the good graces of the Dark Lord. His biggest fear dealing with offering of his daughter to him. Phineas is unsure what to do, and so for now he worries and waits to see what that next move is. |
| Personality |
Never considered anything but driven is what could be said about Phineas, no matter what his perusals might be. Known to those who are close to him, the number of these can be counted on one hand, they will say that he is personable if not a bit stuffy with a wicked mischievous streak in him. To most he is very staunch and considered quite unapproachable. He gives you the feeling that no matter how proper and polite he might be to you that he is secretly forming an opinion about you, a very negative one. When around Phineas you suddenly notice how your clothes don't fit quite right, and your appearance might not be as perfect as you had first thought before meeting him. His humour is sarcastic and biting, and in many ways he speaks the truth more often than not. Fiercely protective of his daughter, he goes out of his way to make sure that her future is protected. This is done without his wife's knowledge as what his wants for his daughter are and hers wants are very different in nature. He likes to buy things for Millicent, but does not give them to her; instead he places them inside a vault for her to receive after he has passes. Each trinket is marked with a date and place where the item was bought, along with a small note telling her why it was purchased and why he thought she might like it. Phineas knows that Olivia would not approve of such things deeming it a weakening of Millicent's nature, and so not to make waves in his life he places them in the vault instead. When in Muggle society he speaks highly of his daughter, and he is known as a widower among the Muggles that he does business with. He is well respected in the fashion circles, and is always able to leave a function he has attended with no photos of himself taken. He does this by magic causing any photo frame taken of him to be ruined, due to this in some fashion circles he is considered myth by those who have not met him. Phineas, enjoys this rumour as he feels it builds his mystique. In Wizarding society, he is the considered one of the examples of Pureblood hierarchy. Without ever saying it aloud, he is considered a leader in the opposition of anything that less than pure in Wizarding society. This amuses him, as in reality it makes no difference to him. His parents being staunch supporters of all things Pureblood, Phineas learned early what the right things to say to appease them and their friends around them. Secretly he held contempt for their views, but he did appreciate the benefits that he received having the Bulstrode name and fortune. Secretly, Phineas wishes for his wife to awaken from her spell of Voldemort and become the woman that he had fallen in love with so long ago. He deeply wants nothing more than to have her back, but he had lost her years ago to the sway of Voldemort. If this cannot happen then he would prefer that she go away and leave him and Millicent alone. He worries that her zealot following of Voldemort leaves their daughter at risk as Olivia is a Potter, and the Dark Lord has far too keen an interest in their second cousin, who they do not speak of, so much so that Millicent doesn't even realize that she is related to him. Phineas worries that if Voldemort realizes the connection that Millicent will be used in the worst way possible, and sacrificed willingly to the crazed deviant by his own wife; as he feels she did to their still born daughter, Fiona. When he is at home, which is as rarely as he can possibly get away with, he is quiet and keeps his emotions as well hidden as possible. Lately though there has been a deep descent between his wife, and himself, as she has started talking more and more of Voldemort and Phineas' need to become more involved as well. It was Phineas opinion that when Voldemort disappeared before it was the best thing to happen for the Wizarding community. This is something he never spoke aloud to his wife in fear of her reaction. In some respect it is thought that Phineas is brow beaten by Olivia, who obviously runs the household. In ways he is, but it is also why he spends so much time at work so his interaction with her is close to none. His only regret is that he wasn't around for Millicent as much as he would like or felt that she needed, and he watched in dismay as his daughter grew up distant, overly independent, and closed in. Phineas wants more than anything for there to be no need to show his allegiance to his wife or her Lord. Instead he would prefer to run his business, watch his daughter grow up to be a fine young lady, create the perfect fragrance and garden. He knows that the likelihood on this happening is close to nil; instead, he is preparing for his likely demise trying to make sure that Millicent is as comfortable as possible. He feels that though he has not been able to be the father that he wanted to be in life out of fear of the wrath of Olivia and Voldemort, in death he will be able to give his daughter everything she always wanted...except perhaps his physical presence. |
